Asylum
seekers, refugees,
precarious individuals, trans people...
AOZIZ is an inclusive, opened network, endeavored
in order to fight against social exclusion in the cultural sector. This
structure will create the conditions for greater diversity in the
sector. This
network was established since 2018, around the intersectional issues of
LGBTQ+
rights, migrants and minorities in general (feminists, Muslims, people
with
disabilities, etc.).
This year again, we are
organizing our Queer, Inclusive, Intersectional Festival (from June
16th to July
9th). Thousands of participants are expected; again this year, in
coordination
with Pride 13 and the Festival of Marseille.

ARTE REPORTAGE
France : imam & gay
The inclusive community of Marseille
Screened on the 21/01/2022
"That's not Islam!" It
is not this fascistic cancer that they impose on us thanks to their petro-dollars”.
When Ludovic-Mohamed-Zahed speaks of the Wahhabi current of the Saudis, or of
the Salafist rigorism, he could not be clearer and says aloud what many Muslims
think quietly.
For
this community, Islam is a
religion of peace and over the decades it has lost the tolerance that
may have
characterized it. These imams stand out in the Muslim world: one of
their imams
is Franco-Algerian, full of diplomas, openly gay. For the past ten
years, he
has also been one of the coordinators of a so-called inclusive
progressive
current which campaigns for an open Islam, respectful of the rights of
women,
of the LGBTQ+ community and for inter-religious dialogue. Little by
little, its
current and those who follow it become more visible, but the road is
still long
and there are many obstacles. From Mecca to Berlin and Metz via
Marseille where the CALEM Institute is established, portrait of imams
like no other.

Our lattest publication :
"Decolonize progressive Islam"

Strongly framed by politics, “the
Islam of France” is constantly controlled and subjected to demands for
allegiance and conformity. “There has never been so much talk in France of
“republican values” as to denounce the deviant behavior of Muslim immigrants”
(Sayad, 1999).
Indeed, the management of the
Muslim faith in France is part of a long history of political interference,
inherited from the colonial period. From now on, it is the descendants of
immigrants and Muslims, who, in the name of secularism and the fight against
“separatism”, face a stigmatizing policy of threat and suspicion. This policy,
still marked by coloniality, affects all the more the multi-minorized people
who question the established order.
Romy Dematons offers here a
comparative study between three so-called "progressive" mosques, in
Paris and Marseille. Her thesis, supervised by Dr. Juliette Galonnier, brings
to light the reproduction of certain logics of intra-community domination. This
multi-sited terrain, dotted with the photographs of Camile Farrah Lenain,
highlights the voices of knowledgeable subjects whose stories and experiences
are sources of knowledge and expertise. This hymn to community care invites us
to decolonize progressives of all stripes, whatever their identities.
Passionate about issues of inclusion, the author traces different strategies of
collective organization leading to horizons of revolution, justice and
liberation.
Romy Dematons, researcher in
political science, graduated from the Doctoral School of Sciences Po and the
Sorbonne (Paris and Abu Dhabi). After a literary preparatory class, a double
history-Arabic course and studies in comparative sociology-politics, she
obtained an advanced certification in gender studies. At the UN, Romy Dematons
worked alongside experts from CEDAW, the Committee against Discrimination
against Women. Involved for 5 years in various collectives, she is Co-founder
of the popular education program Health Sexualities of the association Lallab.
Preface written by Fatima
Khemilat, specialist in Islam in France, racial and gender issues in France.
Afterword written by Liza Hammar, researcher, feminist and decolonial activist.
